The roofing project at Heatherwood Hospital, a state-of-the-art planned care facility in Ascot, has been recognized for its outstanding achievement in the roofing industry. Roofing contractor MAC Roofing, won in the NFRC UK Roofing Awards 2023 for the Bituminous Hot Applied Liquid Waterproofing category for their work on Heatherwood Hospital.

The NFRC UK Roofing Awards, known for celebrating excellence in the roofing industry, chose MAC Roofing & Contracting Ltd for the award due to their exceptional roofing work. The project, valued at £3.5 million, was a collaboration between main contractors Kier and specialist roofing contractor MAC.

The innovative roofing system used for Heatherwood Hospital was BMI Icopal's Parabit Solo Hot Melt, Universal Membrane, and Elastoflex cold applied waterproofing. BMI Icopal’s Parabit Solo Hot Melt is a reinforced self healing waterproofing system specially developed for use in inverted, green and plaza deck roofing systems. MAC, in partnership with BMI Icopal, carefully designed and executed a project-specific specification and installation methodology to ensure the highest level of performance and durability.

One of the distinguishing factors of Heatherwood Hospital's roofing project was its complexity. MACmeticulously reviewed the performance specifications and proposed the use of BMI Icopal systems. By offering a comprehensive solution and a single point guarantee, BMI Icopal proved to be the ideal choice for this intricate project.

The project also demonstrated a commitment to environmental sustainability. With features such as 180 solar panels, a living roof, and a balancing pond, Heatherwood Hospital aims to reduce its carbon footprint by an impressive 60% by 2025. The materials provided by BMI Icopal surpassed the original specification, aligning perfectly with the project's eco-friendly objectives.

The success of the project relied on the collaboration between MAC, BMI Icopal, the main contractor, and the client. MAC's meticulous installation of the roofing system, including the waterproofing of complex details and the incorporation of mechanical plinths, ensured the utmost quality and functionality.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, MAC seamlessly adapted to new working practices, adhering to government safety guidelines and preventing any delays in the project's timeline.
