This project has been implemented thanks to Herculean efforts by volunteers, smart commercial planning and close cooperation with both the local authority and the business community – and Øster Hus has played a crucial part in all that. The facility has been named after its main sponsor, and its objectives are described clearly on the website for the project:

Not just a place where top football is played every fortnight, but also a place where the city can organise national celebrations, exhibitions, shows and other sporting events. The new Sandnes Stadium provides all this, and more besides. We have the most modern arena in Norway. This is a place where people of all ages share some unforgettable memories. This is a place where battles are fought and won. This is a place where people laugh, cry, celebrate and shout for joy. This is a place where our city comes together to fight and win.”
Morten Lende of Prosjektil AS has been a hired developer agent for the club since November 2017. Although he describes the project as traditional, the budget management requirements have been abnormally stringent.
“We haven’t been allowed to deviate from the NOK 195 million budget for the stadium and related business areas. That’s why we’ve had to focus closely on costs. Spending too much on one item would have led to us having to cut back elsewhere,” says Lende.
This football arena is able to accommodate 6046 spectators. There’s a site 2,000 square metres in area around the stadium that hosts a new secondary school and various commercial stakeholders linked primarily with health and sports.
“This building is absolutely fantastic, and the construction work has run very smoothly for the most part. We’ve enjoyed an excellent partnership with Masiv, the main supplier, and various subcontractors such as IcopalTak. Everyone has done a great job throughout all stages of the project,” says Lende, who’s pleasantly surprised to find that cost control has not restricted quality in any way.
IcopalTak has covered the stadium roof with 8,600 square metres of insulation and asphalt roofing, and 2,300 square metres of a two-layer covering and membrane on the roof above the school and the car park.
“IcopalTak have done a fantastic job. The quality of the craftsmanship is really great,” says Lende. The CEO of IcopalTak’s holding company is proud the company is a preferred partner for such prestigious projects.

As the work has progressed, Morten Lende has realised that his feelings on football have changed a little.
“I actually support Bryne, but Sandnes Ulf will always have a special place in my heart. It’s a great club with lots of fantastic people. I hope the Øster Hus Arena makes all the difference to them and helps them get back quickly to the level where they belong,” says Lende.
