Slate has a timeless beauty that will always be in demand. But the advent of modern methods of construction and the growth in refurb mean that beauty by itself is no longer enough. Slate needs to be sustainable and responsible. It needs to be easier to specify and install. And it needs to be lighter yet hardwearing, to be suitable on a range of pitches, and to deliver a long lifespan of lower maintenance and lower cost. Cambrian has been engineered to meet all of these needs – beautifully.
Cambrian Slates embody the beauty and character of natural slate. Made in Wales from over 60% recycled Welsh slate, Cambrian tops the range in both looks and performance and has a proven track record even on pitches as low as 15°. Whilst light in weight, Cambrian's unique three-point fixing makes it suitable for even the most exposed sites.

When specifiers look at replacing an old natural slate roof, modern building regulations or issues such as timber load, ventilation, energy calculations or British Standards can make a like-for-like replacement problematic. This beautiful roof on the 111-year old Lochwinnoch Primary School is a great example of Cambrian replacing traditional slates in a Conservation Area and area of special architectural importance.
“Cambrian was the ideal choice for this project, offering the performance and ease of use of a modern tile, while providing a roof that was sympathetic to the naturally-tiled appearance of the original building,”
James Grant, Project Architect, Renfrewshire Council
Cambrian has been rigorously tested in our wind tunnel testing facility, where combinations of high winds and driving rain are used to determine the slate tile’s performance with respect to wind loading and weathertightness.
Cambrian Slate roof tiles meet the requirements of BS 5534 Code of practice for slating and tiling (including shingles), providing our fixing recommendations are complied with.
