Romilly School with Cambrian Slate and Universal® Single-ply

BMI Specified a comprehensive pitched and flat roofing solution for a refurbished roof at Romilly Primary School.

The Project

The aim of the project was to deliver a full pitched and flat roofing solution for Romilly Primary School, which was old, had been damaged by high winds and thieves had stripped most of the lead from the roof. As a result the roof compromised the safety of the children in the school and was failing in places.

Integrate the pitched and flat roofs and create a solution that is in keeping with the existing architecture, is low maintenance, theft resistant and quick to install.

For Vale of Glamorgan Council construction consultant, Paul Hynam it was important that the new roof was secure, blended with the existing roof, and was quick to install, so it could be completed during the holidays.

Cambrian works well in exposed situations and it was installed using a dry system, with fixings on the ridge and hip system to imitate the previous roof. A BMI Icopal Universal® Single-ply was used as part of the flat roof system, it is UV resistant and tough, but also light and malleable, making it ideal for details. To boost thermal performance. BMI Thermazone insulation was specified and to deal with the interface between the pitched and flat roofs,
the waterproofing was taken under the slates and up to the top of the eaves batten.

Now Vale of Glamorgan Council can have peace of mind for years to come thanks to the fully comprehensive solution offered by BMI.
