The SC2 Leisure Centre and Waterpark in Rhyl required a solution that could meet the challenge of coastal durability, as well as being visually appealing to excite prospective customers.

BMI Icopal specified a combination of Monarplan FM single-ply waterproofing (in Anthracite) and Parabit Solo Hot Melt, which was faithfully installed by Watershed Roofing Ltd of Bradford, to meet the building’s needs.

The Challenge

The Challenge

As a new-build construction right on the North Wales coastline, the sea is literally metres away from the site, which gave rise to a host of challenges - not least of which was the risk of wind uplift and other weather issues.

Watershed Roofing carried out the installation of the system during the winter months with the inclement weather that came with it.  Execution of the works, including timing of deliveries and quick, accurate installation was essential for avoiding issues with water ingress and potential damage.

The Solution

The Solution

The scheme included a large area of both BMI Icopal Monarplan PVC membrane and Parabit Solo for an inverted roof system.

The project required the Monarplan PVC single-ply system to be mechanically fixed, a full wind uplift calculation was done and fixing specifications were provided to ensure the system would cope with the extreme weather challenges presented by the site.

Once completed, as can be seen, the project not only offered security and durability to match the client's requirements, but also an aesthetically pleasing building in a prime area of natural beauty.

On completion, the roof looks superb, with all detailing and installation done to a standard that places Watershed Roofing in high esteem within the industry.
